Global dilemmas: are there any limits?

The world we live in is getting more unequal by the minute (62 billionaires have as much wealth as the poorer half of the world’s population), our economy is fundamentally unstable (sovereign debt crisis), political institutions such as the EU are experiencing a substantial identity crisis (Brexit), the most powerful country on the planet have just elected an outspoken climate change denier and critic of multi-lateralism to be the next President, while we are fast approaching and in some cases transgressing the boundaries of the safe operating space of our planet (global warming and biodiversity loss). This calls for an urgent transformation. Can new ideas such as the Circular Economy, collaborative consumption, green business innovation and Smart Cities provide the solutions to problems of overconsumption and resource scarcity?
