Op zaterdagavond 14 januari wordt het Atrium Den Haag omgetoverd in een sprookjepaleis met de première van de voorstelling De Sneeuwkoningin van het Achemy Ensemble.




De Sneeuwkoningin is een lyrisch sprookjesverhaal waarin verschillende kunstdisciplines en contrasterende thema’s elkaar ontmoeten. In een intieme setting wordt je in het verhaal van de Sneeuwkoningin meegenomen in thema’s zoals liefde, verlangen, plicht en passie.




Naar het verhaal van H.C. Andersen brengt het Alchemy Ensemble ‘de Sneeuwkoningin’ op de bühne waarin verschillende artiesten samenkomen om het verhaal te vertellen, muziek te maken en te dansen in bijzondere kostuums van Peter George d’Angelino Tap. Deze voorstelling vertelt het verhaal van geliefden Kai en Gerda en de gevreesde Sneeuwkoningin.




Nadat Kai is vergiftigd door de Sneeuwkoningin en verliefd is geworden op haar, zien we de zoektocht van een wanhopige en radeloze Gerda om haar geliefde terug te winnen. Echter, deze Sneeuwkoningin blijkt zoveel meer te zijn dan de ijzige en gemene dame die we kennen uit het verhaal. Langzamerhand krijgen we een andere kant te zien van de geniepige koningin. Een kant waar we misschien wel compassie voor kunnen opbrengen...




De rol van de koningin wordt vervuld door sopraan Nicole Jordan en zingt liederen zingen uit de Romantiek door componisten zoals Franz Schubert, Gabriel Fauré en Hector Berlioz.

Nicole Jordan: “De sneeuwkoningin is een bekend sprookje dat misschien simpel lijkt, maar waar het steeds meer de diepte in gaat wordt het steeds ingewikkelder. Ik vat het verhaal ook zeer persoonlijk op en reflecteer het op mijn eigen leven. Ja, het is een verhaal over ‘sweet love’, maar het gaat ook over het verliezen van onschuld, seksuele ontwikkeling, verlies en verlangen. De twee vrouwelijke hoofdrollen in dit sprookje zijn elkaars tegenpolen: de onschuldige Gerda en de ervaren Sneeuwkoningin, maar ik zie het juist als een manifestatie van dezelfde vrouw . De dubbelzinnigheid hiervan, staat centraal in het verhaal. In deze versie van de Sneeuwkoningin vraag ik: wat zou ze doen als ze een jongere ‘ik’ zou ontmoeten? En, net zoals in het echte leven, is niet een eenvoudig ‘happily ever after’”.

Over Alchemy Ensemble

De definitie van Alchemy of alchemie is “het magische proces van transformatie, creatie en combinatie” en dat is precies wat het Alchemy Ensemble doet sinds 2009. Met klassieke vocale muziek als kernactiviteit schrijft en transformeert het Alchemy Ensemble sprookjes in een theatervoorstelling.

Het Alchemy Ensemble is gevestigd in Rotterdam en produceert magische voorstellingen zoals de ‘Sneeuwkoningin’ (2017), 'In Vocation (Kruidenvrouw)' (2013), 'Sweet Solitude' (2012) en 'Sjah' (2009). Artistiek directeur en sopraan Nicole Jordan brengt musici en andere artiesten samen om deze theatrale wonderlanden te creëren. Jordan houdt ervan de grenzen tussen de artiest en het publiek te vervagen en zorgt ervoor dat het publiek deel uitmaakt van de voorstelling, het verhaal of het decor.




ATRIUM THE HAGUE: THE PREMIERE PALACE FOR THE COLD-HEARTED SNOW QUEEN




A lyric fairytale where many art forms come together to tell the magical story. Come and meet the Snow Queen and discover her world. In this intimate setting with the traditional fairytale as the backdrop, the Snow Queen will challenge you with themes of love, desire, duty and passion.




Alchemy Ensemble brings H. C. Andersen’s “The Snow Queen" to the stage to tell the story of young lovers Kai and Gerda, and the dreaded Snow Queen. with music, dance and special costumes by Peter George d'Angelino Tap. This performance tells the story of lovers Kai and Gerda and the feared Snow Queen.




After Kai’s heart is frozen with a shard of glass from an evil mirror, the Snow Queen finds him and takes him away to her ice palace. We then follow the desperate quest of the distraught Gerda as she journeys to win back her love. But with this tale we learn that the Snow Queen is much more than she appears! Gradually we see a different side of the icy and treacherous Queen. A side for which we can even find compassion.




The role of the Snow Queen is played by soprano Nicole Jordan who sings songs from the Romantic era (c.a. 1800 – 1900) by composers such as Franz Schubert, Gabriel Fauré, and Hector Berlioz.




Jordan says: "The Snow Queen is a famous fairy tale may seem simple, but where it increasingly goes in depth it becomes more complicated. I summarize the story very personal and reflect on it in my own life. Yes, it's a story about 'Sweet Love', but it's also about the loss of innocence, sexual development, loss and longing. The two female main characters in this story are polar opposites: the innocent Gerda and experienced Snow Queen, but I see it rather as a manifestation of the same woman. The ambiguity of this is central to the story. In this version of the Snow Queen, I ask: what would they do if they have a younger ego would meet? And, just like in real life, is not a simple 'happily ever after'.
