Pixvae
Het Colombiaanse Pixvae staat garant voor een vurige, trance-achtige mix van Afro Colombiaanse ritmes met rauwe psycho-trashrock. De stevige, groovy basis wordt gevormd door de pompende bas van de bariton-saxofoon samen met de krachtige percussie en drums. De gitaar riffs en zang melodieën daaromheen zorgen voor een hypnotiserend effect.

Pixvae is vernoemd naar een hybride tropische vrucht, een kruising van de palm en perzik. De band Pixvae is immers ook een kruising, een opmerkelijke samensmelting van twee trio’s: Kouma en Bambazú. Waar Kouma zichzelf benoemd als “mutant power trio”, laat Bambazú juist de warme melodieën en opzwepende ritmes uit Colombia horen.

Some roots can become entangled, like those of Pixvae. The band Pixvae is named after a cross-bred fruit of the palm and peach tree. Like the fruit, this quirky band is a remarkable mixture of two trios: Kouma en Bambazú.

The aural mathematics engendered by Kouma, a self-proclaimed “mutant power trio,” here meets the warm melodies and rhythmic ambivalence of the South Columbian Pacific group Bambazú, uniting in an amazing and fruitful musical dare.The musical result is spectacular, to say the least. Like an alchemic experiment Pixvae serves the listener a fiery, exciting and trance-like mixture of Afrocolombian rhythms like the currulao and raw, energetic and mathematical psychotrashrock.A solid and groovy base is formed by the pumping bass sounds from the saxophone together with powerful percussion and drums, while crunchy, circling guitar riffs and melodious vocals are mesmerizing the listeners.

Het artistieke brein achter de muziek, Alex Figueira, graaft diep naar de muzikale wortels van zijn moederland Venezuela, en voert deze op geheel unieke en onvoorspelbare wijze naar nieuwe gronden. Het gruizige geluid, samen met Afrikaanse en Caribische ritmes, psychedelica, surf, samba, old school salsa, funk en sarcastische teksten over de huidige socio-politieke situatie in Venezuela, resulteert in een onweerstaanbare en dansbare mix die tegelijkertijd zowel vintage als futuristisch en vreemd als leuk is.

Cojunto Papa Upa creates an irresistible mix of Venezuelan grooves and sixties surf, rock and samba! The Latin surf-garage refers as well to cumbia and salsa as to Angolan and African music.

The artisitic leader behind the music is Alex Figueira. He gives a twist to the the musical roots from his homeland Venezuela. The raw sound combined with African and Caribbean rhythms, psychedelica, surf, samba, old school salsa, funk and sarcastic lyrics about the current socio-political situation in Venezuela results in a danceable mix sounding both vintage and futuristic.
