Queer zine-making workshop
» Let op: deze activiteit is voorbij «
The idea is for you to make something new with old queer archives, using them as the basis for your new ideas. It makes more concrete how archives are supporting the present. Using these documents in a non-conventional way, you can yourself queer the archive, repurposing it. At the same time, you can get familiar with queer zine archives from the Netherlands.
A zine, short for magazine, is a small DIY print publication, stapled, photocopied and bound in a creative way, on any topic that is of interest to its maker. Some are intended for distribution among the maker’s community, others are meant to remain in a bedroom. The possibilities are infinite and the materiality of the zine is only limited by its maker’s imagination. As a way of expression at the margins, zines have an important role in queer culture.
With this workshop, we propose that you create your own (one-page) zine, using printed material from queer zine archives from Utrecht and the Netherlands.
The idea is for you to make something new with old queer archives, using them as the basis for your new ideas. It makes more concrete how archives are supporting the present. Using these documents in a non-conventional way (cutting, re-shaping, making collages), you can yourself queer the (queer) archive, repurposing it. At the same time, the workshop allows you to get familiar with queer zine archives from the Netherlands.
The workshop will be mainly in Dutch and English, but we also speak Italian and French!
We will provide the printed material, paper, tools (scissors, glue), pencils and some snacks! However, feel free to bring your own supplies!
